About Us
VDB Performance Horses & Equestrian Centre is a new, full-service facility in Bapsfontein founded by Frederick van der Bijl, a veteran of Show Jumping and Polo Cross. The centre's mission is to provide premium stabling and expert training in multiple disciplines, as well as to purchase and develop performance horses. Recently, the Van der Bijll family—Frederick, his daughter Cora-Lee (Level 3), and son Luan (Level 3?)—have been heavily involved in Western Mounted Games (WMG), with Frederck competing in Levels 2 and 3. Frederik is enthusiastic about the rapid growth of WMG (from 200 riders in 2015 to nearly 700 in 2025). He views this popular sport as having immense potential, which is why VDB Performance Horses & Equestrian Centre has committed to sponsoring the international WMG event. It is our hope that we can stay involved in the IWMG even in the future and that we can help in growing the international even to so help in growing the sport.

Riding Disciplines
Dressage is often described as the art of horse training and movement. It’s a graceful and disciplined equestrian sport where horse and rider perform a series of predetermined movements, known as "tests," with precision, fluidity, and harmony. The goal is to showcase the horse’s natural athletic ability and willingness to perform, while highlighting the rider’s skill in guiding the horse subtly and effectively.

Show jumping is a thrilling equestrian sport that combines speed, precision, and athleticism. Horse and rider navigate a course of obstacles—such as fences, walls, and water jumps—aiming to complete it without faults and within a set time. Each round tests the horse’s agility and the rider’s control, making it both a technical and exciting discipline.

Western Mounted Games are fast-paced, skill-driven equestrian events that combine speed, precision, and teamwork. Riders compete in a variety of timed challenges—such as barrel racing, pole bending, flag races, and keyhole races—designed to test agility, control, and coordination between horse and rider.
